A day of unveilings
Okay so you are probably aware of two unveilings today, those of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlo Ancelotti. But a third was presented in the form of Sutton Coldfield’s Darius Vassell.
Released by Manchester City, Vassell has signed for non-other than Turkcell Süper Lig side Ankaragücü. Raised eye-brows all around, who the heck are they?
Well Vassell seemed to be in the same quandary as he was presented to a baying Ankaragücü crowd. Pictures say more than words, so here’s the unveiling ceremony…
Poor old Darius looks like a kid on his first day of school and well you can’t blame him for looking a little worried- Ankaragücü fans are known for their hooliganism. And when the club’s chairman hails you as the English Kaka one can be excused for having second thoughts. Best of luck Darius!
Ronaldo’s unveiling was less inconspicuous. The luminaries of discourse Sky Sports News were naturally there, keenly displaying step-by-step detail of Ronaldo’s movements.
After a lot of umming and ahhing the 70,000 crowd got to see their man step out onto the hallowed turf of the Santiago Bernabeu. Madridistas even had messages on bread to welcome him to his new home.
Watching this ceremony a pang of sadness hit me. No longer will Ronaldo liven up our Saturday nights. He might be a narcissistic, temper-tantrum throwing man-child of a footballer but god he is good.
Sad to see him go, honestly.
And now to Carlo, who beguiled the English media with his language abilities- he even attempted some humour…
It’s the way you tell them Carlo!
Let’s see how many jokes are proffered when the season starts and the spotlight falls onto Mr Ancelotti.
